South Dakotans Speak--"It's Time to End the Abortion Wars"

Washington, DC - South Dakotans spoke their mind clearly yesterday and rejected efforts to outlaw all abortions in the state. A narrow provision that would permit abortions only when a pregnant woman’s life was directly endangered was not enough to save this bill. American Life League--Laying Out Specific Criteria for Judging Candidates--Egregiously Violates Federal IRS Regulations

Washington, DC—Catholics for a Free Choice today filed a complaint with the IRS following the last minute pre-election publication of the American Life League’s “voter guide,” requesting that the IRS swiftly strip the organization of its tax-exempt status in light of its egregious violations of rules governing the behavior of nonprofits in elections. Worse, along with its newly minted clone, Catholic Answers Action, the two groups are encouraging other unknowing nonprofits and churches to join them in their legally questionable actions. Operation Rescue West Loses Tax-Exempt Status

WASHINGTON — On September 11, 2006, the IRS announced that it had revoked the nonprofit 501(c)(3) status of Youth Ministries, Inc., which did business as Operation Rescue West (ORW). While the IRS does not provide information on the circumstances that lead to revocations of any group’s tax-exempt status, a CFFC complaint filed in 2004 provided information on ORW’s electoral activities during the Boston Democratic Party convention that we considered to be violations of IRS regulations. Antichoice Catholic Group Flouts IRS Regulations

WASHINGTON, DC—In an early sign that the 2006 election season will parallel 2004 with widespread and flagrantly illegal political activity by tax-exempt antichoice groups, Priests for Life is at it again. The notorious antichoice organization, composed of only 13 percent of the nation's 47,200 Catholic priests, has issued a direct challenge to the Internal Revenue Service and started recruiting "volunteers who want to do some concrete work to elect pro-life candidates in 2006."
